It won't take you very long at all to realize that you've got ingrown hairs. Usually about two days or so. You'll have red painful bumps where the hairs are.

Prevention: exfoliate before shaving to slough off the dead skin cells that might block growing hairs.

Removal: exfoliation can sometimes help. I also recommend putting on a warm compress to draw the hair upward. Then use tweezers to pull it out.

If you lathered your legs well you shouldn't get any ingrown hairs. I find that my regular hair conditioner works great as a shaving cream as well. It doesnt get all sudsy on your legs and leaves them silky smooth!

Ingrown hairs are hairs that are growing under the skin... so you will get them at the same speed your hair grows... so for most girls about 2-3 days.

To prevent them, shave regularly and exfoliate a couple times a week.

A lot of people say to shave in the direction of the hair, but I you don't get a very close shave that way, so I say just remember to exfoliate to shed that dead skin the hairs get trapped under.

Have fun in shorts this summer!

There's no way you can prevent an ingrown hair if you do get one, but you can reduce the inflammation caused by an ingrown hair. You should order a bottle of Tend Skin lotion. Tend Skin lotion is a medicated lotion that prevents shave bumps and irritation caused by ingrown hairs.
