Ingrown hair or razor bumps?

im a 17 year old male. and i just shaved a little bit down there. i shaved it 24 hours ago. i only shaved the top most part. now there are little red bumps. and some of it hurts (not that much) when i tough it. some dont hurt. my pubic hair is not really curly. its more like wavy but is very thick. so what is it razor bump or ingrown hair? what can i do to heal it?

Ingrown hair or razor bumps?

It could be either. The most important thing to do is to keep the area clean. There are products on the market that are made especially to heal razor bumps AND ingrowns. For example, "Tend Skin" and "Bump Stoppers." Check your local Walgreens.

In the future, you may want to use a special shaving cream for your nether regions. "Bikini Zone" is a good one. Yes, it's kind of feminine looking, but IT WORKS. Also, after you shave, use an aftershave product (it will sting) such as Tend Skin.

The first few times you shave your puch region, your skin will react this way. Over time, though, the skin will get used to it and this won't happen. Still use the special creams and after shaves, though -- they'll help prevent ingrowns.

Also, when you shave it's good to make sure the hairs are as soft as possible. This means making sure you're in the shower for at least 5-10 minutes BEFORE shaving. Shampooing your pubes, or just using regular body wash, will also help. AND...do as good of a job as you can with the first pass of the razor. Each time you pass over the area with the blade, the skin gets more raw.

Ingrown hair or razor bumps?

You probably have ingrown hairs. You will have to wait and remove them with tweezers. You should not shave it all off if you don't have any products to prevent razor bumps. You should trim the hair with scissors or electric trimmers.
